Expertise: Engineering

Your role in a nutshell:

I work on a range of different projects at our Cardiff office, mostly relating to hydrology, hydraulic modelling and flood risk assessments.

When you joined WHS: 2025

Your experience:

I graduated from Cardiff University in 2025 with an MEng in Civil and Environmental engineering. My dissertation involved deriving simple unit hydrograph models from scratch and assessing their effectiveness, whilst I completed modules covering topics from renewable energy design to sediment transport and geoenvironmental engineering.

Why you like working for WHS:

Because we are a small team I am involved in variety of projects and get the chance to work on them throughout the project lifecycle. I find the job really interesting helping to manage interactions between human infrastructure and nature, to ultimately create benefits for both society and the environment.

What drives you:

I love to challenge myself, solve puzzles and learn new things. Firstly, because I find it satisfying to get a job done well and see my hard work make a difference, but also because I’m competitive and strive to keep improving and become the best version of myself.

What you like doing when not working:

Before joining WHS whilst studying I competed in triathlon at an elite level, including representing Great Britain at international level and competing for Wales at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. Now outside of work I still spend a lot of my time swimming, cycling or running but slightly less seriously, and I also love great food, playing guitar and generally being outside exploring everything South Wales has to offer.
