LowFlows Enterprise

LowFlows Enterprise is a powerful tool which has all the advantages of LowFlows but offers enhanced functionality and analysis tools for the high volume or regional user. LowFlows Enterprise is used as a best practice tool for estimating low flows in ungauged catchments by the Environment Agency, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency and UK water companies.

Advantages of Enterprise include:

Automatic catchment definition

• you select a point on the digital river network and LowFlows Enterprise automatically defines the catchment above that point. This is based on the incorporated CEH Digital Terrain Model or alternatively a 'nearest neighbour' approach (defining catchment membership of grid cells by proximity to river reaches)

Artificial influence data

• you can import representative artificial influence data (monthly abstractions and discharges and the flow duration curves for impounding reservoirs) at the actual grid references within the catchment
• the influencing 'features' within the catchment boundary are automatically summed to produce a 'net influence profile'. This represents the average monthly impacts within the catchment, from which a set of 'influenced' flow statistics are derived

Spot measurements

• river flows and gauged data can be compared with predicted flows for evaluation purposes

A scenario tool

• you can easily simulate the potential effect of new impacts on the flow regime (for example, diverting water, abstracting water, discharging water, impoundments/reservoirs and global water use scenarios)

Residual Flow Diagrams

• natural and influenced flow components are estimated at successive river confluences along a selected river stretch. The results are presented as longitudinal profiles and tabulated statistics. view images
