FEH CD-ROM | WINFAP-FEH | ReFH

The FEH CD-ROM, developed by CEH, provides you with the catchment descriptor and rainfall average values required to apply the Flood Estimation Handbook methods.

Its geographical user interface enables you to select any point on the 1:50,000 UK river network (provided the catchment area is in excess of 0.5 km²) and automatically defines the upstream catchment. Once selected the software provides you with:

• the full range of 25 catchment descriptor values
• catchment average values of the six rainfall depth-duration-frequency model parameters (FEH Volume 2).

The rainfall DDF model allows assessment of the rarity of an observed rainfall event and an estimate of design rainfall depth for a user-defined duration and return period.

These data are fully compatible with WINFAP-FEH and ReFH software products.

FEH CD-ROM 3 is available for purchase/upgrade from our online shop under a 3-year renewable licence. FEH CD-ROM 1 and FEH CD-ROM 2 licence holders can purchase FEH CD-ROM 3 at reduced rates with provision of old licence details. A discounted educational version is also available for teaching purposes at recognised academic institutions.

What's new with FEH CD-ROM 3

FEH CD-ROM 3, released in 2009, incorporates the latest advances in flood research. It includes three new catchment descriptors and offers the user improved functionality and extended coverage as outlined below:

Three new catchment descriptors (FPEXT, FPLOC, FPDBAR)

• FPEXT – the proportion of the catchment within the modelled 100-year floodplain. FPEXT is essential for the new FEH statistical method implemented in WINFAP-FEH 3.
• FPLOC – the average distance of the modelled 100-year floodplain grid points from the catchment outlet.
• FPDBAR – the mean flood depth over the whole catchment.

Extended coverage

• FEH CD-ROM 3 includes data for the entire UK, including the Scottish Islands, Isle of Wight, Anglesey and Isles of Scilly. The UK dependencies of Jersey and Guernsey are not included, although data (excluding BFIHOST) is available for the Isle of Man.
